Things to check out *in Dayton during Hamvention
Posted by KE8HNK on 2024-03-06 at 15:23If you are like us and make it a family trip to the Dayton Hamvention here are some of the favorite things to do especially if you plan properly here are our favorites…..
Carillion park:
A great place to check out and learn the industrial and aviation history of Ohio and Dayton. Also has one of the Wright brothers planes on display.
Dayton Airforce Museum:
Not much explanation needed but plan some time (about 5 hours) to get a basic tour.
Packard Museum:
Classic cars and some awesome folks who run it Downtown Dayton in a old Packard Dealership
Voice Of America:
About a 45 minute drive to see and well worth the small fee to see some vintage radios and radio history
Dayton Univeristy:
If you have kids who maybe near collage age make a stop here and check out (they will give you a great tour of the campus)
Now all of these attractions charge a small fee and it helps to keep them operating for about $100.00 (last 2 years costs) you can learn, enjoy and have even more fun. Just a few of our favorite places to visit and enjoy. ~73 KE8HNK

Yup… big pads, new pads, the new posters, the new **free** door hangers, and a couple of surprises.

Many ham groups, such as DX clubs, national nets and special interest groups have their own “sideshows” in and around the area during Hamvention.
I’m planning on attending the QRP ARCI’s Four Days in May get together at the Fairborn Holiday Inn. They’ll have talks and forums. Also vendors and club nights. Contests, prizes and dinners.
I’m taking a break from the “big show” this year, even tho I live in the same county. Wears me out too much! The air conditioned hotel with complimentary lunch is enough for me.

Another great place to check out is Yellow Springs, a few miles north of Xenia.
It’s a village that has fantastic little shops and restaurants. It’s a great place to get a start on your Christmas shopping. Your XYL will definitely enjoy the experience and vibes!
