Other than the first year, there is not much planning that goes into my Field Day operation. The first year (https://youtu.be/J5JKCPoZGKs) involved creating a backpack station – selecting (based on receive current drain) an Elecraft K1, a solar panel and container to protect it while it was in the backpack, and a backpack. Threw in some wire for an antenna as well as a Hustler mobile antenna and resonators. (Antenna planning involved researching half wave end fed antenna lengths that allowed an automatic tuner to tune 80 through 10 meters). After that, it was packed away until next year. Each year it was just a matter of picking it up, going to location and setting up. Over the years, there have been occasional additions such as an MFJ mast and tripod (not backpackable but can be thrown into the car if setup is anticipated to be close to the car), kite string reels to hold the antenna wire. No thought is gone into operating conditions – they are what they are when you get there.
