The usual game plan was to fly into Miami the day before and spend the night in a hotel then onto the boat in the morning.. </p>

After reading. Stepping motors do not stall, they skip.  The motor current goes up as the load goes up. Also, a stepper motor will skip more often at higher speeds. The current and skip depend on t&#8230;</p>

<p>Well, the FCC apparently thinks amateur radio is a service to society.  That&#8217;s why it doesn&#8217;t refer to ham radio as a hobby.  According to part 97, it is the Amateur Radio Service.</p>

They do not feel the need or have the desire to get the license. Others are working on getting the license, our long term plan is to use the GMRS (set and forget on a channel) and simple training on pressing the button. The Jeep and other houses have a GMRS so the older members can call one&hellip;</p>

<p>When we are in the woods, we do carry GMRS radios just as a precaution in case we lose cell service and we get separated. I admit that at home, in the city, we do not have a backup plan. If cell goes out, we&#8217;re cooked. I&#8217;m thinking that this might be an&hellip;</p>

<p>One of the main reasons I like ham radio is that it&#8217;s so many hobbies rolled into one.</p>
<p>I tried packet way back when and I&#8217;ve seen people doing the digital modes at field day, but they&#8217;re not for me.</p>
<p>My passion is still for good old CW ragchewing. I do like the modern technology that  allows me to have a QRP station, the size&hellip;</p>
